Midsommar

MIDSOMMAR doesn't come out in New Zealand until October, but when it does I highly recommend you check it out if you're into creepy horrific experimental depraved thrillers. This movie is so gory and visceral and big and loud, but it's strengths lie in its smaller moments, as it matches horror with heartbreak and makes your skin crawl from both the onscreen terror and the relatable anxiety - sadistic cult rituals are scary, but so is feeling like you're being annoying to the ones you love, or being afraid that none of your friends actually like you. This movie covers the whole spectrum. I highly recommend and I can't wait to never see it again.
