The Aviator
Come Fly With Me…
Wow this really scratched the same itch as Oppenheimer for me. With similar subject matter, it is every bit as good. If not better in some places.
If Oppenheimer is the American Prometheus, Howard Hughes is definitely the American Icarus.
The third act really hit me hard. To see this man destroyed when it was so clear what he needed. I don’t know how I went so long without seeing this.
All the subtle ways that Katie saves him and puts him back together and is there to catch him are so poignant. Unfortunately he screws up and he forgets what keeps him grounded, and by the time he realizes it, he’s lost it, and he’s never getting it back.
The way that the color grading changes over the course of the story to match the technicolor methods of the day is insanely cool and the kind of thing only Scorsese would think of.
10/10 I’m in love with this, actually my favorite Scorsese picture. Which is a hard contest because I love Scorsese.
Also more evidence for the Scorsese likes tall women theory.
