Donnie Darko
When I watch Donnie Darko. I don't see a sci-fi story about tangent universes and manipulated deads. I instead see a story about a troubled teen who lets fear take control of his life.
The subject matter is confronting and because of that, it makes way for themes about love and self discovery while connecting these explored messages to a story about the uncertainty of what the future holds for us. Above all though.. what I see in this movie, is a story about what it means to live, die and mean something to our loved ones.
No movie has ever touched my heart quite like this one. That's why Donnie Darko will always remain a favourite of mine. It's not the best movie i've ever seen but it's undoubtedly my favourite.
So glad this is a Halloween movie because this is just the typa movie you watch at the end of the year as you self-reflect on all you've been through.
P.S. maturing is realising that the theatrical cut is superior 😤
