Into the Wild
Everyone who says that Chris is just a spoiled rich kid being dramatic didn’t understand the movie whatsoever. I think it’s crazy to judge someone because you think their trauma wasn’t extreme enough.
To be clear, I’m not saying Chris was this hero or a perfect guy who was smart about everything he did.
The movie and Chris’ poor decisions may feel romanticized (which upsets a lot of people), but I believe that it just helped us see what Chris was seeing. The music, cinematography and exciting adventure put us in Chris’ world. He wanted freedom and adventure, so of course he would enjoy it even if he did end up making a reckless mistake. Aside from the adventure there are clearly some things that aren’t romanticized in this movie, like his family problems and loneliness at the end. You aren’t supposed to see Chris as someone to follow in the footsteps of. I feel like that’s fairly clear, don’t go to Alaska fully unprepared. I feel like some people see a privileged white male and project their anger onto the movie without really thinking about it. I understand why it would be frustrating to see a person with so much privilege willingly just throwing it away, but I don’t understand why you’d ignore the rest of the movies points after that initial idea that you made.
