Rangasthalam
2018 time lo memu theaters ki rare ga vellevaallam cuz my dad was a huge workaholic and was always out of state or out of country for work. BAN, Mahanati, and Rangasthalam all came before my dad left to Ireland for a 4.5 month work trip (longest aa time ki), so we decided to watch all three movies in theaters lol.
Ee movie gurinchi I was very skeptical cuz 1. I was kinda bad at Telugu so Godavari dialect artham avvadhu emo ani and 2. I was not (and I'm still not) a fan of village dramas. But this movie was something else.
Sukumar sir is one of my all time favorite directors cuz of his flawed main characters for good or for bad, and ee movie lo Chitti Babu flaw ni story ki use cheskunnattu inkevvaru antha effective ga use cheskoledu, not even his own "students" (looking right at you Buchi Babu gaaru). And no scene of this movie serves just for world building, there's always an importance for it that is later discussed in the second half of the movie. Eeyana movies lo common e idhi, but ee movie lo inka predominant untundhi, and the more you rewatch this movie the more high you get cuz of these details.
Ram Charan as Chitti Babu was amazing. Appatiki RRR raaledhu kada, I was so surprised by his acting. Manaki ekkada kuda Ram Charan kanipinchadu, the innocent-yet-brave Chitti Babu e kanipisthadu antha baaga chesadu. And Samantha thana career peak lo oka de-glam role cheyyadam is a bold decision but her as the sweet-yet-sarcastic Ramalakshmi was so pleasant to watch. Anasuya as Rangamma, Aadhi Pinnisetty as Kumar Babu, Jagapathi Babu as President Gaaru, etc. were all amazing in their roles, even though prathi actor vaallu eppudu try cheyyani roles chesina kuda. Their respective performances made Rangasthalam feel so real. Personally nenu summer break lo thappa I've never "lived" in Indukurupeta (maa ooru), but I felt like I was in Rangasthalam with all these people.
Rangasthalam tharuvatha chaala movies ochayi ee village drama concept gurinchi with the same topics like caste, honor killings, power, etc. but no one was able to recreate the magic of Rangasthalam. Ippudu choosina kuda entha fresh ga undindho ee movie asalu. This is cinema to me.
Prathi rewatch lo oka detail note cheskunta, ee rewatch lo this was what I noticed:
Right before the interval Prakash Raj goes "mee vijayam kosam naa pranam isthanu" or smth like that and it immediately cuts to a shot with him in the hospital. Nijamga Kumar Babu vijayam kosame he wakes up from nearly dying and the climax happens (not spoiling it hehehe) :)
