Possession

already knew i loved it, but third time’s a charm. this time, i had the pleasure of seeing possession in theatres, 35mm theatrical cut, and what an experience it was. since this was the theatrical version, a lot of material was removed, including a significant amount of the film’s psychological and domestic horror, shifting the focus more toward the body horror elements. i also noticed some re-edited scenes, new optical effects and added musical cues that create a more conventional horror movie feel. even so, the film remains oddly engrossing, an energetic and bracing experience that takes no prisoners. it’s bizarrely entertaining in its own way, unlike anything I’ve ever seen and all the better for it.
