The Notebook
The Notebook.
Yes, Noah Kalhoun is not a perfect man, sometimes he is an arsehole, and even a manipulator. Aliee is not perfect either, she’s sometimes quite aggressive towards Noah, and generally unstable. But that's what love really is. The Notebook, whilst being of the most famous, classic romances of all time, also breaks so many of the tropes that traditionally make a romance. It’s not perfect, it’s far from it - that’s what real love is. Real love is when two people are human, together. They constantly fight, but they are still crazy about each other. That is what love is. And this is demonstrated beautifully in the modern day scenes and the ending, Noah still fights for his love with Aliee, even though it couldn’t be harder.
Does it glorify cheating like many people claim it does? I would still say no. Yes they cheat, but the whole film is about their flaws and mistakes that make them both so perfect for each other.
Honestly heartbreaking - I am in awe as to how perfect this film is.
