Manhunter
The Lecter dynamic isn’t quite Silence of the Lambs, the hunter/hunted dynamic isn’t quite Heat, the detective philosophy isn’t quite True Detective. And it can be cheesy as fuck.
But instead of discrediting it, just appreciate how it blends the greatest strengths of 3 masterpieces and offers something new and unrivalled in that respect.
And one thing is for sure - Michael Mann knows how to end a thriller like no one else. The steady burn finally boiling over never fails to hit like crazy. Whether it’s Frank’s rampage in Thief, Hanna chasing McCauley across the runway in Heat, or Graham charging through that window here, there’s nothing quite like it.
