Manhunter
So fucking cool.
Perfectly paced, fascinating and procedural, hits all the notes for me in the ‘kinda disturbed FBI agent hunting a serial killer’ nanogenre that I just can’t get enough of.
Beyond the heaps of style, brilliant dialogue and straight beautiful cinematography, the constant reminders of inferiority, insecurity, and how hard it can be to just accept success when you have it, through imagery of water, windows, and reflections, really knocked it up to that top level on rewatch. That parallel between a man who is hunting to find belonging and a man whose hunt prevents him from enjoying the belonging that is so clearly within reach. Damn.
The only criticism I have is that no matter how great this is, it will always be overshadowed by Silence of the Lambs. Because that will always be the perfect film.
In-a-gadda-da-vida, baby.
