Amadeus
Without a doubt a masterpiece in its own right.
My issue with it is more a problem with me than the film itself. I just can't help but think that the tone of the film takes a bit away from it, were it more serious this would be a perfect film. And again, I recognize that that is moreso an issue with me. The silliness of it just kept it from being entirely effective. There were moments during a sequence with Mozart composing that came close to moving me, but it just couldn't get over the hump to get me there. Had the film had an overall more serious tone it would have gotten me there.
Other than that i think there are times Tom Hulce overacts, mostly at the beginning. But this film is impressive. It's opulent. It looks gorgeous. The set design and costumes are impressive. F. Murray Abraham is stellar.
