The Northman
“i am amleth the bear-wolf, son of king aurvandil, the war raven. and i am his vengeance!”
every time i watch this, i feel like i’m being baptized in fire and blood. the rawness, the mythic weight of it, the way robert eggers blends brutal reality with dreamlike folklore, it all hits somewhere ancient in me. it’s like watching a legend unfold in real time, carved in stone and lit by firelight.
alexander skarsgård is terrifying and tragic, a beast with a broken heart. anya taylor-joy is a force of nature. the score pounds like a war drum in your chest. the visuals are so wild and elemental it feels less like cinematography and more like a vision you were never supposed to see.
i keep coming back to it, and it keeps pulling something different out of me, rage, sorrow, awe. there’s something deeply cathartic about watching a man become more than a man, even if it costs him everything.
when the credits hit, it doesn’t feel like a movie ended, it feels like a curse was fulfilled. something ancient went to sleep again, and you’re just left staring at the screen, breathless, like you witnessed a prophecy you were never meant to survive.
this movie never stops hitting.
