Thelma
Thelma it's by far the most creative film from Joachim Trier, at least from the ones I have watched, he took most of the positive aspects from his previous films shaping a genuine and abstract story, I was truly having issues in the style from this filmmaker, but I respected how he aspire in building ambitious and pure artistic proposals, in this work, you can appreciate something with effort and riskier intentions.
Being perfectionist, being obsessed to parents approval in every aspect, trying to hide so hard your weaknesess, a representation of a family blinded with religion, crisis of identity, an hyperbole of how aspects that can be seeing as superficial, in your innerself can be inestable and self-destructive; these are some of the themes this film shows you with an abstract and surrealistic execution. I can't deny either that isn't a film for everyone, it takes a lot of risks in the way it tells things, you can being conflicted and having mixed feelings in the themes that are portrayed here and even being confused about if you're truly getting what the film is trying to say; but that's kind the intention, and these kind of projects are the more valuable in modern cinema, those that keeps you thinking after watching it.
