Thelma
When you rewatch Thelma you can find more hidden layers.
For conservative parents, specially those who can't face reality, is easy to guilt her own sons when they don't understand anything. Probably Thelma didn't have that "power" they thought she had, or probably yes; but indepently of what the actual answer is, no one has the right to manipulate someone thinking they know what they're doing, when you don't understand something, you need to have the will to understand it, but without affecting the integrity of your own child.
Thelma surpressed all her feeling since her childhood, for something she could never understood, but at the end she is a human being, not an deity; she felt love, she wanted to live, to express herself; but instead, her own trauma conduct her to obey her parents in everything even if its something she didn't wanted, without the chance to discover her trueself, that's why all stuff surrounding her turns like that, it's not her fault, she just wanted to be herself, but her fathers own insecurity and selfishness, stop her of that, and they faced the consequence not from what Thelma subconsiously did or not, but for they own bad practices, at the end the only one who decide what to do with their life, are ourselves, and whatever happened in the past, can't change that natural system.
When we talked about Joachim Trier magnum opus is often common to mention some installment of his "Oslo Trilogy" or "Sentimental Value". For me, that place is for Thelma.
