Pulse
Not as terrifying as the first time watching, but still plenty scary, plus I had more time to focus on the whys. It always feels like something is lurking off camera, or in the shadows, you can literally feel some unseen presence in the rooms with the characters, which is paralleled by the weird internet footage of people’s homes, which I’d like to believe is the POV of whatever is hidden in the corners, in the dark. It also is the first link between the supernatural and the internet/technology. Throughout the film the one is used to explain the other and it feels like the two things are very intertwined.
Lastly another thing I’ve noticed during this rewatch is the connection that seems to exist between the ghosts and the color red. So going of the theory, that ghosts are “flowing” into our world, there’d have to be more and more ghosts making it into “our world” the longer the film goes on. And I think the color red represents that. Obviously there’s the whole red tapes thing, which (in theory) marks the ghosts “territory”/“confinement”. Now the color red seems to invade the movie further and further appearing more often as the film goes on. From red chairs to soda cans to people being “marked” by the color through the things they wear, it all represents the ghosts expanding, which is why we don’t see any red on that final ship, because it’s free of the supernatural.
