yeah dawg I love this
alot more to appreciate and it feels way smoother as a whole on rewatch
some third act stuff is a little bloated but this thing moves with so much energy and sauce that I forgive literally any problems I have with it because of how fun and fresh it all plays.
saw a-lot of people online hating on this not having any meaning or depth behind the horror. I genuinely think some of that conclusion could be chopped up to so many recent horror flicks of the past 20 years being obsessed with the WHY of the “evil” or horrific thing that audiences now just kinda expect to be given this rich, in-depth explanation as to why the evil thing is here or what it wants. So it is kinda fresh to see something that really doesn’t care about all that and instead is solely focused on the HOW and WHEN specifically. Idk maybe there’s something in-between the lines that you could read (I think there is) but the movie definitely does not feel invested in explaining it and I think that’s cool ig
I do not know how to say this without sounding like a complete douche but Cregger is doing stuff with his filmmaking here that I have seen myself wanting to do for years. Not necessarily the script or subject matter but the way he constantly is toying with structure, blending genres, letting the comedy of a scene find itself naturally, and his style of editing is genuinely so parallel with some of the sensibilities I want to tell stories with. SOUND DESIGN!! CAMERA MOVEMENT. SCORE!
idk that might not even be close to a correlation to those of you who have seen my movies but this dude is a blueprint at this point.
Please do not get sucked into the IP machine king🙏🙏
yall thought I was insufferable always telling people to watch barbarian…
