Aftersun
“Aftersun” is the equivalent of unearthing a heartbreaking time capsule. It offers just enough nostalgia, but it glistens with familial issues. The most obvious is not getting why your parents acted a certain way when you were a kid, only to fully understand as an adult. It’s also how you remember them growing up versus looking at reality. Paul Mescal is one of the hottest up and coming names, and there isn’t a quiver of doubt as to why. You can look at the movie either one of two ways: through the lens of a child beginning to understand the world, or a father whose world is collapsing outside of his daughter. No matter what you choose, this is a top 10 film of the year lock for me. Did I sob a bit at the end? The answer is yes.
