Whiplash
This is a perfect "film bro" movie. I'll break it down for you.
1. At it's core, simply a very good film. (This is something that I think all good "film bro" films have as one part of it)
2. Visually stunning. - in a way that’s “mechy” and can be talked about at great length.
3. Fantastic performances - specifically by older male actors.
4. A wonderful score. - not a necessity but very important.
5 (and this is the key one). Very very very very easy to not get. Like there is a clear moral/lesson/theme/whatever here. However, there is a secret, evil "moral" hiding right behind it that stupid people believe.
Whiplash, of course, hits all of those criteria. Out of the park performance on all fronts. Well done!
ok fr tho
This movie blew my expectations out of the fucking water. I knew "Ok JK Simmons is a harsh but effective teacher and Miles Teller was his student" but HOLY FUCK! I literally never knew where this movie was going next. JK Simmons' performance was fucking phenomenal. The slight sociopathy that he portrays in the calm scenes is so wonderfully done. And of course Miles Teller's range of emotions over the course of the movie is so amazingly displayed. The score was so amazing. Like of course it would be, why would I even mention that, but oh my fucking god dude. Blew my fucking mind. This movie is so wonderful top to bottom. So intense minute to minute, never a break. Loved it.
TL;DR: Miles Teller can just do that
