Vertigo
Yeah this film is so ahead of its time, it’s crazy for how old this one is, that it still holds up today. This thing is a masterpiece.
Vertigo has many themes within it, but my favorite of them all is falling. Throughout the film other ‘falling feelings’ are described, like falling in love, falling off a building etc. these mesh well as the main character is known to have acrophobia hence the name of the film.
As of late I’ve been really looking at set design, and setting of films as well. But Vertigo excels at it and should be considered a benchmark for film. Just nothing here looks out of the ordinary, everything works amazingly. Lastly the cinematography is absolutely outstanding, there are shots here that look like they were taken today. The scene under the Golden Gate Bridge is one of the most gorgeous pieces of cinematography I’ve ever seen.
The story of the film is confusing as hell at first but the ending ties it off very well. I guess it’s really the first half of the film that makes you scratch your head and wonder wtf you turned on.
Wrapping up this is one of those that the film was shown perfectly and you shouldn’t have any questions about it, but I have a million questions about it. This is one of the best films I’ve ever seen and might enter my top 4 soon.
