Vertigo
It’s no secret that Alfred Hitchcock is one of the greatest directors of all time, but this might be one of the greatest films ever made. Vertigo is truly one of one. Nothing has ever come close to it, and I doubt anything ever will. How could anyone even attempt to recreate a story like this?
Hitchcock is unmatched when it comes to building suspense. The tension gradually escalates throughout the entire film, but those final 20 minutes are something truly special. It’s one of those endings I wish I could experience for the first time again. The sudden car crash ending brings everything together perfectly.
There are so many stills from this film that look like paintings. That really stood out to me on a rewatch. Hitchcock’s use of color is sublime, and every frame is incredibly easy on the eyes.
This will always remain one of my favorite films of all time. I genuinely can’t see anything ever replacing it.
Timeless piece.
