Moulin Rouge!
Bad Luhrmann is a very interesting director to look at. Aesthetically his films are pretty similar, with maybe the exception of Elvis (haven’t seen). His films are full of epicness with a bit of sexuality in between those moments. With this though I think he fully gets to explore themes of zaniness while simultaneously getting, at the same time, a very sexual and horny film I guess. Baz also has a very “special” relationship to music and I love how he can incorporate it into his films, which is something I would also love to eventually do. I also want to point out how beautiful the lighting and editing is. The blue and red, to me, doesn’t contrast and together makes a very beautiful spectacle. The editing, without knowing Baz’s style, could drag a film down, but it never ceases to amaze me how quick the edits are. Makes it seem that there is just constant action whenever. Honestly I have a lot more to say and a film studies teacher to thank but it’s getting late rn where I’m at so…
