The Da Vinci Code
"The Holy Grail 'neath ancient Roslin waits. The blade and chalice guarding o'er Her gates. Adorned by masters' loving art, She lies."
"She rests at last beneath the starry skies."
The underrated masterpiece of the modern era (in my opinion anyway).
I love every part of The Da Vinci Code, from Audrey Tautou driving a Fiat backwards, Tom Hanks making some slightly questionable and misogynistic comments and Tom Hanks and Audrey Tautou narrowly avoiding the police for the tenth time.
Tom Hanks as Robert Langdon is the perfect casting in my opinion (shitty mullet and all). He plays the perfect everyman and looks so out of his comfort zone yet in it at the same time.
The Da Vinci Code is also my favourite book and this is a very faithful adaption. Nothing was taken out and all the locations are the same except the ending, which I don't really mind being different because it is perfection.
The ending of this film is amazing, all the clues and puzzles are finally put together as Langdon finally realises that the Holy Grail had been where the journey began, the Louvre.
Hans Zimmer's beautiful score is amazing throughout the film but is best during the ending. The building of orchestral layers is masterful and is part of why this film lingers long in the memory and keeps you thinking.
Overall, The Da Vinci Code, with all its flaws, is a modern masterpiece that questions religion, authority and human nature.
