Blue Moon
I was a fool for only giving this 4.5 the first time around.
Had a few months to think about it, caught up with more Linklater and Hawke projects and finally revisited and it's just fucking masterful.
The script is non-stop and seems fantastic, but it's down to the performances. Was true in the Before films, in Boyhood and especially in this. Ethan Hawke is so locked in to the role of a poetic arsehole who wears his heart on his sleeve. The heartbreak he constantly feels followed by the immediate false bounceback to move past it is just flawless.
It's an incredibly wordy film, but if you are in the mood for that and can last the full 100 minutes, you will not find anything better.
