Baz Luhrmann delivers his magnum opus with a maximalist spectacle that perhaps only he could. Never once fearing the almost 3 hour runtime (and honestly this deserves the 4 hour cut treatment desperately), this cinematic ambrosia is the penultimate death rattle for film.
Austin Butler and Tom Hanks completely swallow the screen without reverence for the other actors. An awe inspiring performance from an all time great and a future legend. Baz projects two Oscar worthy giants with the best editing in decades on a silver screen fit only for the King.
I want to watch this over and over forever. Every new watch finds something your favorite director wishes they could pull off, and in this, it’s not even the 10th coolest thing. That’s Baz fuckin Luhrmann for you.
