Coco
Fun fact: this is one of only four movies I have watched in the big screen for three times, the other three are: the Cinderella remake, the Death Cure, and Ready Player One.
Missed the opportunity to watch this four days ago, but oh well, this is my favorite animated film and third in my top 12 favorites, and was my favorite film before I rewatched La La Land for the second time.
Pre-pandemic, I always watched (paid with my own money) the new releases in the big screen. I actually didn’t want to watch Coco, as I found the trailer too generic and bland, but because it was Pixar’s, and after a perfect mark on a math quiz, I decided to splurge and watch this in the high-end theater that was not too far from me, and oh my god it was so good. Instantly my favorite film of all time (at the time)
Its animation is legitimately jaw-dropping, the humor was dark and sad even though it was played for laughs, and the characters you actually care for. I was first confused at its title when watching the film. I remember thinking: why is that grandmother the title of the film? The reveal was something I never expected. Did I say that scene at the underground pit was stunningly animated? That body of water was a great shock to me, I remember stupidly thinking that the water was indeed live-action or photorealistic, can’t remember exactly what of the two.
And I never cry at films. Only a few made me heavily cry (ex. Schindler’s List) and no Pixar film has ever made me cry, but oh well. I’ve watched this film five times (this is the fifth) and every time I start rewatching this film I say to myself I will not cry, and every time it ends, my eyes are red and tears are streaming down my face. I give this film high praise, astoundingly high praise 🙈
