Sunshine
Such a profound portrayal of how hard young Filipinas have it, and how difficult Philippine life is with the absence of proper support, in addition to the presence of several holier-than-thou members of society who impose their made-up beliefs.
Like they’d automatically go to Heaven if they preached what they believed was the word of God… anyway, I was about to book a Grab but my mom asked me what movie was still showing at SM North. I looked and saw Freakier Friday, a random movie, and Sunshine.
I was interested in rewatching Sunshine. So at 9:58 PM, we were at the ticket counter. The screening was at 10:00 PM. I got scared for a while because the cashier said they were unable to accept card payments; we paid with a debit card for our dinner at Yabu. When the cashier told us our tickets cost 550, my mom realized she had just enough cash.
Thank God for this movie’s more affordable ticket prices indeed 😘 we were immediately sat! And omg this movie was just so watchable! I was never bored.
I also felt immense sadness for the situation Rhed Bustamante was in. That scene of her being rushed to the hospital made me so sad. It was so affecting, how much Maris Racal wanted to save her, and how the lady who sold Rhed the abortion meds gave back to Maris the money.
And I felt so much anger as well — at that doctor who lectured Maris for her abortion attempt, and at the doctor who said he would be at risk of losing his license if he attempted to save Rhed’s character.
I’ve had terrible experiences with doctors. A particular instance is of my childhood doctor, who insisted on seeing me after a bout of depression in November 2019… she was not a psychiatrist nor a psychologist, and it showed: she literally told my mom and I the movie Joker was the cause of my depression. Mind you that movie came out in October 2019 and I already had suicidal thoughts on August 2018 😂😂😂 I can’t with these people who needs to have some sense knocked into them.
Antoinette Jadaone gets it!!! I loved how she shows that despite the abundance of punchable people you want to tell to sybau, the number of compassionate people triumphs them all.
I really liked the scene of Jennica Garcia lying on the bed with Maris. It was so human. You are not alone indeed 🫂 and I wish a better world could be had for people like Sunshine.
That sequence at the end of Maris and her would-be kid watching her practice was just stunning. Depicted with so much empathy. The ending is also presented as ambiguous, and I really like it, because Jadaone knows you just know as well.
