Silence
10.) Which film is objectively the greatest ever?
Brett Goldstein and I apparently disagree on what this question means. In my mind, as it is written, the answer to this question can only be one of three films: The Godfather, Cititzen Kane, or The Shawshank Redemption.
If I asked someone the best fast food restaurant, McDonald’s would rarely come up, but it is undeniably the greatest fast food. I hate The Beatles. I despise them. Not just on a personal level either, as in I don’t like to listen to their music. I think they are talentless and objectively bad. Ask me what the greatest band of all time is? The Beatles. No competition.
As it is written, Silence is not my answer. It is not close to the greatest film. It is not even close to being the greatest film directed by Scorsese.
As this question is answered on the podcast, it is asking about the best film that one has ever seen. Silence is my answer. It’s not my favorite film, but it is my pick for the movie that most effectively accomplishes what it sets out to do.
