Three Colors: Red
Finally finished the Three Colors trilogy and what a ride of emotions. I’ve always admired how each film uses its signature color not just visually, but thematically. It’s rare to see something so subtle yet so powerful contribute to storytelling in such a meaningful way.
Each film felt like it had its own distinct genre. Blue was a meditation on grief and isolation, quiet and introspective. White leaned into themes of revenge and hope. Red was full of tension and mystery, almost like a thriller.
Together, they form something greater, a trilogy about loss, freedom, love, and ultimately finding meaning in life. At least, that’s how I felt.
As for ranking them, it’s tough. I’d say it’s a very close tie between White and Red for the top spot. Blue is just as powerful, but it’s definitely the most enigmatic, meant to leave you thinking long after the credits roll.
