Vertigo
Alright I was waiting this to be better on a rewatch, but not this much better. Here's a rewatch I've been putting off for 3 years and here I am finally rewatching this art.
It's been actually excatly 3 whole years now since I've watched this film. I watched this for the first time may 1st 2023 and now its may 2nd 2026, but technically its may 1st since I was still watching when it was midnight. And this was all an coincidence, I didn't even know I watched this may 1st 2023 when I started rewatching.
So what do I think? This film is a total masterpiece. Truly Hitchcock's second finest work and now I realize why it's got so much praise.
The plot is so engaging. This is one of best scripts I've seen because this is like Christopher Nolan if he was a writer in the 1950's because this film is one mind twist. This film has so many twists and turns that make you actually think what is even going on. This script is so strong that it actually offers one of the best storytelling in cinema.
The story is explained in a way where it's so brilliant and so different that you know that not anyone else couldn't have done a better job than the man himself Hitchcock. The storytelling is so smooth and unique that you are actually confused what is happening and when everything gets explained that's when everything starts to make sense.
The visuals are something else. I consider this to be one of the best cinematography ever because this is truly beautiful. I watch this and I was amazed by all the colors and directing. Every shot is so stunning and this films visuals were truly ahead of it's time.
This film follows a lot of heavy themes and it's the reason why its a slow burn film. I think the reason why a lot people neglect this film is because the pacing is so slow and they get bored. This film is that kind of film where you really gotta be fascinated by the story and if you're not, this film isn't for you.
The heavy themes follow a lot guilt and obsession. I love for a 1950s film that we are actually going though these themes when they weren't so talked about then. Especially romantic obsession was an unusual subject and I love how deep this film goes into it and how accurate this film gets it. Such a great representation of obsession.
Atmosphere is so amazing. I loved the dark, eerie and neon atmosphere for a Hitchcock film. Usually they're pretty neutral or happy looking films, but this film goes though so many heavy themes and the whole vibe is just so dark as well. So I definitely am liking this unique and different atmosphere from Hitchcock.
Vertigo is definitely very different from a lot of Hitchcock's other work. If you can get into this slow burn story you'll love this film to death and luckily I did.
