Your Name.
Your Name is truly a masterpiece of a film and I wanted to rewatch to see if it was as good as last time, it indeed was.
Let's start off with the only negatives. First act pacing. The pacing may start off a little slow during the first act, but slowly speeds up during the second and third act. And then one another negative I have is consistensy. I think some of the more consistent scenes could have been a bit longer to give that "pay off" to some of the slower scenes.
There's about my only big negatives and well there's way more positives. First of all the pacing overall is great. Second and third act are truly amazing and the shock factor and emotional depth is on point because we get so many shocking points already in the second act for example; the town being destroyed and Mitsuha actually being in the past all this time.
The depth of Mitsuha and Taki's relationship is great. It's emotional and deep giving us complex a relationship and heartbreaking and whelming seperations and reunions. Overall their dynamic is just beautiful.
Cinematography is by far the best parts of this film. This film had so much beautiful shots of the sky, comet and overall bunch of scenes were just amazing. I would have loved to exprience this in cinema. Sadly I didn't.
This film is also filled with bunch of interest details of the comet and hints that Mitsuha is actually in the past which I found very fun to analyse in rewatch. I hope to find even more hidden details on 3rd watch.
Decided to watch the dub now instead of sub and I indeed prefered the dub more. Might be biased because I've always been a dub guy more in anime, but this had great emotional, realistic and natural voice acting. It really did feel real and not forced. The sub also was amazing and had every factor in point as well, but I just loved the dub way more.
The script is amazing. The structure is done so well and this film really does know where to go indeed. It doesn't get tangled up or lost in it's story, but the structure is clear and the film has a clear objective which it follows with ease.
Your Name is something I would consider a masterpiece following a heartwhelming beautiful story. But all these words aside are we 100% sure Christopher Nolan doesn't direct anime films?
