Die Hard
🔥 4th Watch | Top 100 | Christmas Ranked
Once again, the annual Die Hard family watch is complete, and once again, I am in utter awe on how spectacular this action Christmas film is. Since I've already established why Die Hard is a Christmas movie, I will refrain from explaining why this is the case. However, it wasn't until this rewatch that I realized just how amazing the screenplay was. Everything from the character introductions, pacing, dialogue, irony, themes, placement of comedic relief, character writing, ending, and how the film weaves back and forth from scenes with John, Hans, and the cops were all stellar and truly made me appreciate the excellence of such a compelling story. The film moves with an incredible pace, and there is no shortage of excellent action scenes. Even the little, tiny details are perfect, such as subtle glances and the cop getting prickled by the thorns. For an action film, it's quite remarkable that Die Hard is the epitome of quality screenwriting. I wouldn't change a single aspect about the story.
Die Hard excels in other places too. The plentiful action scenes were breathtaking. The soundtrack and score were thrilling. The performances were stellar, with the actors supplementing the sublime dialogue. The cinematography was fantastic with impeccably framed shots.
Die Hard is an all-time classic, and rightfully so. It defined action movies as we know it, and no other pure action movie comes close to reaching the same level of perfection that Die Hard currently has. And for the record, just to reemphasize this pointless debate, if It's A Wonderful Life is considered a Christmas movie, then Die Hard is certainly a Christmas movie.
