Whiplash
Today is a special day, today is my 15th birthday!
so in honor of my birthday I have watched my favorite movie of all time, Whiplash.
I always find it weird and corny whenever someone says something like "this movie changed my life" or "everyone should watch this movie at least once in their lifetime" because seriously, how can a movie actually change a person's life?
The first time I watched whiplash was 4 months ago, I remember it like it was yesterday, I remember when the movie ended and the credits rolled and I was in complete and utter shock, I was just flabbergasted.
I remember going to school the next day and telling my friend about the movie in excitement, he didn't seem so excited.
2 weeks passed and I suddenly remembered that I had a drum kit in my basement, I ran downstairs and I started watching YouTube tutorials on the basics of drumming, that same day I played the drums for 6 straight hours, a day later I played for another 5 hours and I kept constantly playing for the next weeks, 4 months have passed since then and I am now in my school band.
Now I will say something that is actually about the movie.
while most of the movie is pretty accurate some parts of it just don't make sense, for example fletcher telling Neiman that he isn't on tempo while he clearly is on tempo and making him do the most useless exercises, also, the amount of sweat and blood in this movie is just so exaggerated.
The thing that annoyed me the most when seeing this for the second time is the amount of abuse towards the drum kit, fletcher and Neiman are breaking and throwing the kit like it doesn't cost anything (please just give to me it looks amazing!).
The best part of this movie by far is the last scene, when I watched it for the first time (and even now) I felt things that I never felt before.
Anyways enough yapping, this was my love letter to Whiplash and I am most likely not going to watch it anytime soon because of how exhausting it is.
