Dune
Watching Lynch’s Dune felt like the study guide for this. Dune still feels nigh impenetrable with it’s strange lore and complex politics, but Villeneuve embraces this unknowability. In a vast and uncaring universe where the machinations of countless other have put our hero Paul on a path before he even had a choice in the matter, he learns letting go and letting the wind take him is less painful than struggling against it. Letting go and not trying to “get Dune” so you can take in the absolutely massive images seems to be the route. Indulge in the sublime and sense of awe here.
