Sinners
Sinners is undoubtedly a perfect film, one that I knew the day I saw, would end up one of my favorites of the year.
No matter what else came out…
On a second viewing, the things I saw as perfect were even more profound this time around. The viewing experience never looses its suspense even knowing what’s to come.
And that’s not to mention all the small details and foreshadowing that stands out so much more upon a rewatch.
The two major proponents toward perfection, to me, are undoubtedly the Score and the Cinematography.
The score might just be the most profound score in any film that I’ve ever seen. IT DOMINATES. The smokestack song genuinely portrays every emotion and is used to do just that.
An unforgettable score, and one that should be studied.
Sound is truly used in unthinkable ways throughout Sinners.
The Cinematography is absolutely stunning and left my jaw flat on the floor, except for all the scenes that it was quivering in.
Ryan Coogler had an immense vision, and didn’t hold back on putting it into effect. Using 70MM film is a sure fire sign of confidence from a director.
The Color Scale and set designs are maximized to the vision of Coogler, and match the cinematic experience and score so well.
One of the more immersive films I’ve seen in my lifetime.
Sinners is unmistakably filled with incredible acting performances, and to me the two that stand out are Micheal B Jordan, and Hailey Steinfeld.
Both give there career best role in Sinners.
Other Notable roles: Miles Caton, who defined his career with Sinners. Wunmi Mosaku, Delroy Lindo, and Jayme Lawson.
Sinners is stylistically rich as hell, contains an almost contagious score, and to me leaves the audience infused into a story that they couldn’t possibly ask for more from.
Sinners might realistically be my favorite film of 2025. One Battle After Another is right there with it, making that actual declaration a tough commitment.
Ryan Coogler, this is your undoubted masterpiece.
Sinners is a perfect Horror film that almost redefines the genre.
