This is definitely more of a film I personally enjoyed than something I’m rating from a critical standpoint but wow, just wow. The artistry of not only the food but the cinematography itself, literally perfect. The shift in tone really got me too. Yes, I knew this was a horror/thriller so I knew it was coming but it’s just done so effectively. I just loved the subtle change from it presenting itself as a movie about high cuisine to it clearly becoming something much darker.
Another thing I loved was the commentary on capitalism, the rich, and the consumer. It’s also just really cool to see a “villain” acknowledge what they have become and how they contribute to the ills of society. The presentation of misogyny is really well done too and just adds to all of this. Maybe I just like movies that are about eating the rich, but honestly this film is right up there with Parasite for me in that regard.
This is just all around so great, I was so into it the whole time. The cast was great too, Anya Taylor-Joy and Nicholas Hoult were amazing. From the visuals to the thematics to the dark comedy it just really did it for me and I’m honestly impressed with it for making me feel this strongly.
