Phantom Thread
“I think it’s the expectations and assumptions of others that causes heartache.”This is love. But a different kind of love. Every relationship, whether that is platonic or romantic or work-related is like a war, a massive tug of war. It’s love for someone who doesn’t truly understand love, only acknowledges the idea and the bones of it. Petulance is personified though disruption and misunderstanding of feelings we’ve never really felt before.
Every shot where Alma and Reynolds are just looking at each other says a million words at once, at the breakfast table, when he’s first doing her fit, when they’re at the New Years Eve Party, when they’re sat at the dinner table. It’s fucking beautiful.
Every scene is so rich, so well written, so well shot and well blocked and always, ALWAYS, perfectly punctuated by Jonny Greenwood’s ridiculously ridiculously poignant score.
I’ve not got anything else to say really, kicking myself for leaving it this long tho.
EDIT; who the fuck am I kidding, it’s five fucking stars.
