Dune
This movie is incredible.
I truly believe dune (and hopefully part 2) will be one of the absolutely most essential franchise films of all time. Everything about this movie gives me hope for the future of grand-scale filmmaking. It is a grand spectacle but at no moment feels hollow. It is so purely intimate at the heart of the story and you are with Paul 100% of the way.
The acting is incredible across the board as well. On this 3rd watch I was really struck by the weight Chalemet brings to the character. The way he can have this dead eyed look while simultaneously giving so much emotion is such an incredible talent (really what carries CMBYN). Skarsgard plays such a vile villain I feel like I have to take a shower everytime he's in a scene. And Rebecca Ferguson is so incredible in this role it's hard to articulate. She is haunting and sexy, with such a power and gravitas, she is truly one of the best in the biz. I am most excited to see what they do with her in the next chapter.
This is the first time I've watched this since I saw it in theatres and it played really well at home. For a 2+ hr movie it really carries like 90 minutes, and every time I see it I just don't want it to end. They could have made a 4+ hr movie and i would happily sit my butt through the entire thing multiple times. I am so happy this movie exists and I hope it leaves a large enough impact to breed a new style in sci-fi filmmaking.
