Interstellar
Now… we’re just here to be memories for our kids.
It’s always those films that reveal something valuable about the human experience that are the most compelling. The transcendent power of love and the bond between a daughter and her father. Being able to watch this tenth anniversary in Imax was a true treat. The immersive sounds and sheer volume allowed all the dialogue to be so clearly heard that the lack of subtitles was completely fine. This time round I was able to grasp more of the details and humour in the dialogue. There seemed to be something almost spiritual and ethereal about the story especially in the beginning with all the mystery about the happenings in the room. In typical Nolan fashion the plot was complex yet nuanced and multifaceted with its themes. An amalgamation of astrophysics with the human experience. The unfolding relationship between Brand (Anne Hathaway) and Cooper (Matthew McConaughey) was developed so seamlessly into the story while also having its challenges. In a way the main plot about the flying into space seemed to be a MacGuffin vehicle for the deeper paternal bond and understanding that surpasses five dimensions, something so special and unique yet universal. A stellar ensemble cast with a story that will never grow old.
Once you’re a parent, you’re the ghost of your children’s future.
