BEEF
Logging this for Beef Season 2
I know I'm in the minority saying this, but I despised the first season for its excessive indulgence in long, metaphorical scenes and the sheer stupidity of every single character in the show. It is incredibly upsetting that season two has the same pitfalls.
I’d say around a fifth of every episode's runtime is allegorical. They are all good metaphors, don’t get me wrong but it's just too much. It's not that they're not subtle either they are just too seperate from the rest of whatever is going on.
More annoyingly, everyone's a damn moron. Not a single plausible, sensible decision across the episodes. I don't like nonsense narratives in a realistic setting that pretends to be satirical and critical of some aspect of society.
At one point I watched it only for the good soundtrack and great cast, who put on a fairly impressive performance. Nonetheless the narrative, in its entirety, relies on stupid coincidences, and that's not usually a sign of a good script. The character conflicts are well written I’ll give it that. But I still I don’t see what other people see in this show. Neither in the first season, nor in this second.
If you need to caricaturize your critique of capitalism and individualism, I don't think you've read enough Marx.
