BEEF
(Season 2)
I’m to be honest, very dissapointed with how this ended. S2 is very well shot and acted but as s2 went on in my opinion, it just got worse and worse.
S1 felt almost like a character study of two depressed Asian American characters and how their lives became intertwined and how their actions shaped them and the characters around them while s2 stripped out a lot of the Asian representation and apart from Austin briefly talking about how he felt disconnected from his heretigate it really doesn’t touch on it near as much as s1.
S2 also completely disconnects from the main cast and becomes just another one of those shows with the main characters trying to stop this threat way bigger then them but I guess it addresses capitalism and how it shapes people that get the short end of the stick and the actions they take with that short end. I don’t know I just loved s1 so much and I think that although s2 does do some stuff very good it doesn’t live up to s1 or the things I loved about it.
Edit: after thinking about it more and researching a bit s2 is a great critique of capitalism and shows how it will not stop. I think I was comparing it too much to s1 and the only way that s2 could be better was instead of it being ‘BEEF’ it should have been a show ‘from the creators of BEEF’ since it detaches from what beef originally was but does what it tries to do very well.
