Arrival
rewatching this movie made me feel less speechless because i already knew everything that was going to happen, but it made me even more emotional and deeply affected by the story. i was also able to focus more on the expressions, on the way words were used.
Ian: “If you immerse yourself in a foreign language, you can actually rewire your brain.”
Louise: “Yeah, the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis. It’s the theory that the language you speak determines how you think and…”
Ian: “Yeah, it affects how you see everything.”
languages and communication are very important to me—as much as cinema, as much as the unknown—and this movie is the perfect collision of those worlds. and not only that, but the very concept of opening your mind to new realities and possibilities of communication is portrayed so well that i kept tearing up.
to me, this is the most brilliant movie in the science fiction genre.
“If you could see your whole life from start to finish, would you change things?”
