French Dressing
This was a interesting rewatch for sure, French Dressing hold a lot of great memories for me, it's the first film I ever watched on MUBI which is probably my favorite streaming service ever (even if it does have quite a shitty problem with the subtitles but still) it's my ultimate guilty pleasure film and I am shocked despite having seen a thousand more films since my first watch of French Dressing and seeing this type of comedy done better since then I still really love this film for some reason. Its endlessly charming with its seaside setting and enduring characters, the plot is stupid yet actually very thoughtful and well told and the direction from Ken Russel is really eye pleasing, that black and white cinematography with the sea ocean setting is just, hmmm, deliciously a product of it's time. In many aspects it is very flawed and somewhat dated but I still love it and I would be lying if I didn't say the film still leave me smiling, kinda inspired and also a little emotional at the end. French Dressing is no masterpiece, like for sure it is not a masterpiece, not even close and for some it's probably a forgettable little 1960s film but for me it is such a fun watch and holds something to it for me that I really kinda love it. Not perfect but I'll admit, I loved it.
