Vertigo
The first time I watched Vertigo it was a thrilling very fascinating yet unprepared and pure experience. I didn't have as much the little knowledge and truly high appreciation for the art of film as I have now and it was like watching something as a kid (literally), it was impressionable to say in encapsulation. The second time I watched it I honestly was a bit more perplexed (time didn't passed a lot since I've seen it the first time) then I saw it again this year after some time had passed and it slowly linger within me and although I like it even more with the third watch there was still something there that I want to revisit, a strange mysterious hole waiting for me, an obssession almost mirroring the film was formed with me and the film and with this fourth watch it was like a match finally catching a fire after several tries. I hate to throw this sentence around but basically I finally get it. It clicked and it clicked hard. I can now truly say I love Vertigo. It is truly in every sense of the word a film about and is a obsession. It's a dream, a poetic mosaic of love and toxicity, domination and submission and the human condition revealed through a beautifully bold and vivid lens. The performances this time really clicked with me especially with Kim Novak. God this movie is so wonderful, Hitchcock here paints using the camera, the physical and emotional requirements for painting with your arm and your mind and your patience is very much present here just in film form and from beginning to end. Undoubtedly my new favourite Hitchcock film.
