Honestly it’s crazy to me this was considered a failure and panned by critics when it first released, I love this movie, what makes it work so well is it doesn’t have a main character, sure MacReady can be considered our lead but even then we don’t spend much time with him. Not spending much time with each character just increases the stakes, tension and paranoia around who is “The Thing”. Don’t forget on top of that this has some of the best practical effects ever put to film and they were done by a 23 year old. & The Ending, OMG I won’t spoil it but it’s my favourite ending ever put to a horror film, maybe to any film I’ve seen. John Carpenter really is the king of tension horror and that shows in another scene which is another one of my favourites, The blood test scene. I’m not going to make this a spoiler review but make sure you seek this film ASAP if you haven’t seen it already, anxiety inducing from minute one
