Hard Boiled

Seeing this in theaters was something special. It’s crazy that most of my life this movie only existed in basically vhs quality, and now there is a great transfer in theaters. This is probably the 5th or 6th time I’ve seen it in my life, and I’ve come to feel confident that if we are talking the gun category , this is the best action movie ever made. Near perfect. Chow yun fat is the perfect action star. The coolest man who’s ever lived. There is not a single man who can watch this movie and not think “wow that’s a cool guy. I wish I was that guy.” The scene with the baby sums up why woo is so special and un-repeatable. His movies in this era are just so sentimental despite being so cool and on a surface level very aggressive. If I had one nit pick, I’ve always felt the scene where they try and open the door brings the momentum to a very brief and unnecessary halt. But this is finding flaws in perfection . Oh also, it’s always kind of funny that the informant dies because fat and Leung can’t stop flirting with eachother. Masterpiece!
