Phantom Thread
I think as far as the slower paced Paul Thomas Anderson’s films go, this is one of the ones which has a more clearer narrative and outlining themes which is maybe why I enjoy it more than There Will Be Blood and The Master. It is completely unique and unlike any other romance film. I think there is much much done perfectly, like the maintaining of the very particular aesthetic of and older, classic England. The score certainly helps with this with so much piano, which is certainly a change to his other films, but equally as effective. The outfit choices and overall mise-en-scene were also amazing, Day-Lewis had unreal aura in his suits. And it’s almost needless to say the acting was incredible, with such an amazing cast. I have little criticism for this, only that I did however find it to be a bit one-dimensional at times. Other than that a really solid film.
