Obsession

Please, no more weird shit. I could fix her just give me a chance. Every once in a while a horror film comes around and just manages to blow you away in every way possible. Obsession is another one to add to the list. It is everything I want in a horror film and so much more. Left that theatre tonight feeling sick to my stomach with how uncomfortable that made me feel. That is exactly what a horror film should do. The best thing I can say about Obsession is how utterly fucked it all is. It’s unhinged in the best way possible. Inde Navarrette putting in one of thee performances this decade was something I was not expecting but wow. Everything about her in this is perfection. How she does some of the stuff in this is really quite ridiculous and genuinely terrifying. Curry Barkers direction is to die for and I completely understand why he is doing the TCM film now. So many shot selections that are perfect and the way every scene is crafted to perfection is a work of art. Kinda remarkable that it’s his first big film. Michael Johnston is excellent too and I just love how terrified and depressed he looks for the whole runtime. Obsession looks so great too and because of that it makes it even scarier, along with a score that is so much fun. Everything about it just hits every beat, I don’t have a single flaw. There is something about horror films like this that always manages to leave such a lasting impact on me. No need for jump scares but that pure paranoia and absurdness is what really gets under my skin. There is one scene in this that left my whole body frozen. Was in complete shock at how horrifying it was. Not to mention however that I lost count of how many scenes that left me moving around in my seat feeling uncomfortable. One of the scariest films I have seen and although I don’t think everyone will feel like that, this is exactly what works for me. Also fuck you Curry Barker for making this so funny because laughing when you are scared shitless is not okay. The switches from comedy to horror instantaneously were just fucking with me so bad, I couldn’t handle any of it at all. I could talk about this film forever because I adored it so much. A perfect horror film with one of the best ever female acting performances from Inde Navarrette.
