Weapons
“The night before, at 2:17 in the morning, every kid woke up, got out of bed, walked downstairs, and into the dark. And they never came back.”
On a second watch, Weapons cements itself as one of the most gripping and weirdly emotional genre films of the year. The way it blends horror, mystery, and dark comedy still feels fresh, and the storytelling keeps me hooked even knowing what comes next. Amy Madigan dazzles as Gladys and Cary Christopher deepens Alex’s emotional journey. The rest of the star-studded cast – Julia Garner, Josh Brolin, Benedict Wong, Alden Ehrenreich, and Austin Abrams – all deliver standout performances, with Abrams stealing some surprising scenes.
A lot has been said about the film’s storytelling approach, but I loved it. The fragmented, eerie flow kept the tension high and made every scene feel purposeful, with no downtime whatsoever. Two hours pass in a blink, even when you know where it’s headed. Weapons is a bold, razor-sharp genre piece that only gets better the more you sit with it. Phenomenal filmmaking.
I’m almost certain this will remain in my top three movies of 2025 by the end of the year.
