Dune: Part Two

i know it’s been stated a lot already but how i felt watching this for the first time in the theater i bet is how people felt watching empire strikes back for the first time in theaters. dune: part two looks beautiful, and it’s a gorgeously drawn character study of paul atreides with star performances from timothee chalamet, zendaya and austin butler (all the performances were amazing but these three stood out the most to me). the movie lets you decide by yourself: is paul truly the messiah? is his gift the one of a false prophet or a real savior? how does a true messiah behave and preach his message to his followers? chani is our moral compass through the movie, she is the true character we “root” for and want to see happy. those final shots on her face are simply heartbreaking. i hope zendaya receives acclaim for this since her filmography hasn’t allowed her a true chance to shine yet outside of euphoria (looking forward to challengers!) also yeah i loved austin butler in this. his performance was the perfect balance of campy and menacing and i was eating up every second. he sold me completely and was unrecognizable (to my mom at least) a good casting against type in my opinion! this movies score is also insane and it’s one of those movies where i didn’t feel the length. it left me with questions and most of all, made me want to read the books so i know what happens next, which is the true measure of success for a movie like this. sometimes blockbusters are truly works of art! go see this in theaters now.
