Dune: Part Two
Prior to rewatching this, I had some concerns. Was it really that good? Was it just recency bias?
No, it is that good. A sci-fi masterpiece for the ages. This is what a sequel should be, everything that made the first film great while expanding and improving in several ways.
I do have some nitpicks. I wish we got to see more of the final battle. It might sound silly, but I was hoping for an epic, LOTR-style clash. Also, the buildup to Rabban vs. Gurney felt wasted, as the conflict ended in an anticlimactic and underwhelming way with just one quick blow.
Other than that, this is an incredible movie, a step up from the first in every conceivable way. Somehow, it is even more jaw-droppingly gorgeous, epic, and amazing. Seeing more Oscar buzz for garbage like Emilia Perez and Wicked when Dune Part Two is easily the best of the year is sad. Miss me with that woke shit!
