Memento
although so many of Nolan's later films are technically, narratively or visually more impressive, Memento holds a special place in my heart. it's my favourite of his films, not because it's his best or even because it resonates with me the most emotionally, but because my appreciation of the power of cinema is never greater than when I am watching it. it is devoid of anything superfluous to the story, it relies on only the most barebones of tools at a filmmaker's disposal, and yet it is one of the most gripping and thought provoking narratives I've ever seen. I'll never quite fathom how this was the first feature film Nolan ever made, it's such an inspiration to me
